The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework

The principles are for a child to be safe and healthy, to enjoy and achieve, to make a positive contribution and to prepare the child for economic well-being.

The principles of the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS):

  • that each child is unique;

  • it is important for the child to develop positive relationships;

The principles meet the Every Child Matters outcomes which are for a child to be safe and healthy, to enjoy and achieve, to make a positive contribution and to prepare the child for economic well-being.

The aims of the EYFS:

  • to set standards;

  • to provide equality of opportunity;

  • to create a framework for partnership working;

  • to improve quality and consistency; and
